Serie A : Milan 0 - Inter 4

MILAN: Storari; Zambrotta, Nesta, Thiago Silva, Jankulovski; Gattuso, Pirlo, Flamini; Ronaldinho; Borriello, Pato.
INTER: Julio Cesar; Maicon, Lucio, Samuel, Chivu; Zanetti, Stankovic, Thiago Motta; Sneijder; Milito, Eto'o.

At San Siro it finished Milan-Inter 0-4. In the first half the Nerazzurri scored through Thiago Motta in the 29th minute, Milito on a penalty in the 36th minute, and Maicon in the 46th minute. In the second half Stankovic scored in the 67th minute.

It should have been a great night, possibly that of the rebirth for the morale and the ambition of the Rossoneri. Only 20 minutes were played well by Leonardo's men, who after a great start gave way to a cynical and fast Inter team. For Mourinho's men the goals came from Thiago Motta, Milito, Maicon and Stankovic.

The first derby without Kaká, Maldini and Ibrahimovic, the first in an August night. Leonardo didn't change the team, on the bench go Inzaghi, Seedorf, Huntelaar, and Ambrosini. On his part Mourinho immediately sent new playmaker Sneijder on the pitch behind Milito and Eto'o.

Both teams played aggressively and at a high rhythm from the start. Milan controlled the match, with more personality and clarity, and without getting intimidated by a shot from Sneijder in the 5th minute which was well saved by Storari. Leonardo often told the team to play with a defence high up the pitch, Nesta and Thiago Silva anticipated Milito and Eto'o, in the 7th minute Flamini went past Maicon, Borriello played in support of Pato's runs. The first 17 minutes saw Milan dominate against an intimidated opponent. In the 15th minute Pato entered the penalty area and played it to Ronaldinho, whose shot was off target.

After 20 minutes the match decidedly changed. In the 29th minute Inter showed speed and skill, with a quick move with one-touch football, as Milito found Thiago Motta who unexpectedly gave Inter the lead. Milan tried to regain control of the match while Inter played how they know best, using Eto'o and Maicon's speed. In the 36th minute Milan lost it, as Eto'o found a long corridor in the penalty area, where he was fouled by Gattuso. The penalty was converted by Milito. After a perfect start to the match the Rossoneri started to show tangible nervousness. In the 39th minute Gattuso, who had been booked after conceding the penalty, made a bad tackle in midfield and was sent off with a second yellow card. In the 46th minute Maicon received a pass from Milito and made it 3-0.

In the second half Leonardo sent in Ambrosini and Seedorf instead of Flamini and Borriello. The rhythm was much slower than in the first half, Milan tried to play while Inter tried to hit on the break. In the 19th minute Ronaldinho came off for Huntelaar, while Eto'o scored but was stopped in an offside position. As minutes passed Inter regained control of the match. In the 22nd minute a great goal by Stankovic made it four for Inter. In the 30th minute Eto'o again tried to score, but the Cameroonian's shot went just wide. The final minutes of the match saw Milan look for the goal but with the morale clearly gone.

Seria A 2009/2010: Siena 1- Milan 2

At the Stadio Artemio Franchi of Siena it finished Siena-Milan 1-2. After Pato's goal in the 29th minute and Ghezzal's in the 34th, Pato again scored his first brace of the season in the 48th minute and allowed Milan to win.
SIENA-MILAN: OFFICIAL FORMATIONS
SIENA: Curci; Rossettini, Ficagna, Brandao, Del Grosso; Jarolim, Vergassola, Codrea, Fini; Ghezzal, Maccarone.
MILAN: Storari; Zambrotta, Nesta, Thiago Silva, Jankulovski; Gattuso, Pirlo, Flamini; Ronaldinho; Borriello, Pato.

Brazil striker Alexandre Pato scored twice after great work from Ronaldinho to give AC Milan a battling 2-1 win at Siena in their Serie A opener on Saturday.

The visitors, patchy in pre-season under new rookie coach Leonardo, went ahead on 29 minutes when Pato coolly slotted home after compatriot Ronaldinho's clever pass.

Abdelkader Ghezzal equalised for the hosts five minutes later when Milan's stand-in goalkeeper Marco Storari could only parry a shot into his path.

However, Milan quickly regained the initiative in the second half when another delightful Ronaldinho ball allowed Mathieu Flamini to give Pato an easy tap-in.

Fiorentina's Adrian Mutu shrugged off worries about his preparedness by coming off the bench to salvage a 1-1 draw at Bologna in the opening game of the Serie A season on Saturday.

The Romanian striker is still coming to terms with a Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) verdict ordering him to pay former club Chelsea $24.5 million in damages after a positive test for cocaine while at the English side five years ago.

Mutu started as a substitute with coach Cesare Prandelli keen to limit the pressure on him but he rifled home the equaliser from just inside the area after 64 minutes having entered the fray at halftime.

Former Fiorentina forward Pablo Osvaldo had put the hosts in front midway through the first half when he headed in a corner from close range.

Fiorentina, who host Sporting in their Champions League playoff second leg on Wednesday with the score at 2-2, had chances to win but striker Alberto Gilardino was twice denied.

Here are the main declarations of the Rossoneri's coach.

HUNTELAAR'S SUSPENSION
"We knew, there was the hope to remove it, but there was not possibility to field him. Unfortunately he cannot play, but we knew that.

THE FIRST MATCH AGAINST SIENA AND THE SEASON
"The first matchday arrives, now we are all at zero points and we start off on the same level. Tomorrow's game is one we can have to face fully concentrated. We must act like in the Berlusconi Trophy, playing with the same attention and concentration. It was an important month of work, I think that the team is ready.

"Starting out well is always fundamental, managing to give a fingerprint to our performance would important for ourselves. I don't think that it is decisive to win or lose, but I think that the team is able to start off well. We have reacted well to the difficulties and the proof was Milan-Juve at San Siro. We need to give a signal straight away to ourselves and to the others to prove what we are. We cannot say today what we are, it will be the games to say so, in the path of the season.

"Who can win the Scudetto? I will not make too many calculations, let's think about ourselves and to how we can improve. Starting from Bonera, Dida and Abbiati, apart from Di Gennaro, we have available everyone and this is very important. We know the commitments we have, I don't want to stay here to preach what we shall do and what we will not do. Milan can always start with the willl to win. Game after game, we shall understand what we can do. We start out knowing that we are Milan and that we have inside us this will to win. Then it will be the games to determine things. We play match after match and we'll see where we can arrive.

FORMATION AND INJURIES

"The formation doubts will always be there and if we will have the entire squad available, the doubts will always be welcome. Everyone is returning and this is what matters. The basis to the squad which goes on the pitch is that of the team who played in the Berlusconi Trophy.

"Borriello or Inzaghi? I see them well both, they are different players. The choice can be for their characteristics. I will keep the doubt until tomorrow, I want to understand also how Siena will play, we don't know exactly what to expect. They tried the 4-3-1-2, but they also have the possibility for the 4-3-3. We'll see.

"Kaladze had a series of injuries, he stopped, he is doing a new period of preparation. His week has been very good, he's close to be totally available. If this team will always have its potential available, it will be a good season. Oddo not called-up? With Massimo I have always spoken and I had done so also with Kalac. Right from the start I told him that I had some ideas and that if he had found a better place than the one of Milan today, we could have spoke about it. He has always worked hard in all of the moments of the preparation and this is very important. The transfer market is open. If he had to find a better place we'll see. De Silvestri? In the transfer market one thing is tied to another, we must see. We have to wait. We start off with this group and I think that it's a valid group. The idea is a player on the wing, but there are many impossible names. We'll see what is possible until August 31. The moment in general, on the transfer market, is of economic difficulty. We see the big clubs, but also the average and the small ones. It's a period like this."

A FIRST BALANCE
"We're coming from a tiring month, useful for some tests. Today I feel strong, more inside the squad, I confronted myself with a different role which I like more, I find in the players a continuous response which makes me go forward. All that we have suffered last year we paid for it even until today: the recovery of Nesta and Gatuzo, fundamental players, Borriello who was out for a year, Kaladze out for a long period, Bonera still out, Inzaghi, Seedorf and Ambro at times not available during the preparation... I did not expect a brilliant Milan for these reasons. What I see today is that this team has a unique sense of belonging, to Milan: everyone knows their importance and what it is to live the Rossoneri's world. This is the departure. The rest, tactics, form and so one, must be built. The solid base is a matter of pride and objectives and this exists and is increasing. It's this energy that makes the world go round, the rest is built day after day.

"How can you have trust in this Milan? During the preparation we did not prove our real value. Until Chelsea, in reality we had done very well, until the squad was full and complete. We were not in form but we had energies to use. From then onwards, Amrbo and Seedorf stopped, Borriello, Nesta and Gattuso felt the initial sprint. What this team is, is not the picture of the preparation. The week of work at Milanello was very positive and it was a proud response to start again. At our return from America I think that Milan improved a lot."

THE BENCH DEBUT

"If I'm excited for the bench debut? Sincerely my personal stories I now see them useless, I'm in the role of thinking about the others' emotions, not mine. This career is a surprise for me. I'm thinking about making a career, I'm responding to a call of a club to whom I'm completely tied and I try to do my best, with what is my experience. Honestly my personal stories and emotions fall a bit. I'm only worried about reching my objectives.

SILVIO BERLUSCONI AND RONALDINHO

"My rapport with Berlusconi is very good. When he talks about swage cuts and so on, he speaks like a football director, more than as Milan president. He talks about a football idea which needs to be re-thought. His words are tied to ties, for a more sustainable football in the future.

"Berlusconi is in love with Ronaldinho, he knows that he has a pearl at home which needs to be used at its best. I have known Ronaldinho since always, I know his story, I play for years with his brother, I'm Brazilian. His training session today was beautiful to see. He must do what he did today always. I will do everything to make him and the entire team give their best. I want to get from him, and from those who can, the best. He's improving, he's returning, either now or never, his moment for Milan and the national team is now, in all sense, also for the prearation he has made.

THE BRAZILIANS, THE NATIONAL TEAM AND THE ROSSONERI'S TACTICS

"Pato is an incredible talent who must affirm himself in the national teal. Thiago is paying for those six months he did with us without playing. I think that both, just like Ronaldino, will soon return in Brazil. Egoistically we have them here for ourselves, it's a positive thing. Ronaldinho today is playing as a forward. We play with 4-3-1-2 with Ronaldinho as forward and he must be decisive in attack. We play like we have always played. I Pato can become top-scorer. He has enormous possibilities, he has grown, he has become more man also in his physique. He has speed, he is spontaneous in his movements, easily arrives, but he needs to find continuity. He has scored 15 goals last year, but he has head of him still many things to do."

LIPPI-MOURINHO

"The row between Mourinho-Lippi? I'm out of it, in order not to add other opinions. It's not that I don't want to sway one side or the other, it's that I have other things in my mind. What I can say is that I'm happy about the good luck tha Mourinho gave me in Boston and the charge that Lippi gave me at the Berlusconi trophy. We met and he was very nice with me."

Milan lost 1-0 to Inter in a 45-minute game in Pescara before being beaten 2-0 by Juve in another reduced-time match, leaving them with just one win from 10 friendlies in the preseason.

"I understand that the bad results attract attention, but I'm sure we'll have a good season," Saturday's La Gazzetta dello Sport quoted Leonardo as saying. "We've had some problems managing the squad, which is not too big and we've had some injuries. The evaluations should be made when we're all here."

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar posed little threat in his first games for Milan after joining from Real Madrid but Leonardo said the Dutch striker would be more effective with more games under his belt.

The brother of fellow footballer Simone Inzaghi, Inzaghi got his start playing for hometown club Piacenza Calcio as a teenager in 1991, but made only two appearances before being loaned to Serie C1 side Leffe, with whom he scored an impressive 13 goals in 21 matches. In 1993, Inzaghi moved to Serie B club Verona and scored 13 goals in 36 appearances. Upon his return to Piacenza, he scored 15 times in 37 games and proved himself as an exciting young prospect.

Inzaghi made his Serie A debut when he transferred to Parma in 1995, but scored only twice in 15 matches. He moved on to Atalanta the following season, finishing as the Capocannoniere (Serie A's top scorer) with 24 goals.

Despite a solid tally of 58 goals in 122 games for the Bianconeri, Inzaghi was soon benched in favor of David Trézéguet, and he was bought by Milan for the 2001-02 campaign by Fatih Terim, but suffered a knee injury and missed the first half of the season. Upon his return, he was able to forge a strong goalscoring partnership with Andriy Shevchenko, and he soon racked up an impressive trophy count with the Rossoneri, among them the 2002-03 Champions League (in which Milan defeated his previous team, Juventus, in the final on penalties), along with the 2003 Coppa Italia and the 2003-04 Scudetto. He signed a contract extension in November 2004.[4]

Inzaghi was able to fully recover from persistent knee injuries that had dogged him for two years, as he also regained his predatory goalscoring form by scoring 12 goals in 22 Serie A matches in 2005-06, along with four scores in five CL appearances. On May 23, 2007, in the 2007 Champions League final in Athens, he scored both of Milan's goals in their 2-1 victory over Liverpool in a rematch of the 2005 final. He declared after the match:

It's a dream since I was a child to score twice in the final, and the ones I scored yesterday evening were the most important in my life. It was an unforgettable game. It's something that will stay with me all my life and two goals in the final speaks for itself.

At the start of the 2007-2008 season he picked up where he left off in Athens, scoring the equalizer in the Super Cup in Milan's 3-1 victory over Sevilla, a game in which he controversially celebrated his goal despite all the other goal scorers of the game (Renato, Marek Jankulovski and Kaká) not doing so, showing respect for the late Sevilla player Antonio Puerta. Inzaghi capped off the year by scoring two goals in the final of the 2007 Club World Cup, helping Milan win 4-2 against Boca Juniors to take revenge for the defeat on penalties in 2003.

On 24 February 2008, Inzaghi scored the matchwinning goal in Milan's 2-1 win over Palermo with a diving header; it marked his first Serie A goal in over a year. This was followed by ten more goals in the league, the last against Udinese. This strike against Udinese was his goal number 100 for the club in official games. In November 2008, he agreed for a contract extension to June 2010.[5] On 8 March 2009, Inzaghi scored his first hat-trick of the season against Atalanta when they won by 3-0 home at San Siro. His 300th career goal came in the 4-1 thrashing of Siena away from home. He then went on to score three goals against Torino, his second professional hat-trick in as many months. With this new triple 'Super Pippo' breaks a new record, the player with the most registered hat-tricks in Serie A during the last 25 years. With 10 hat-tricks, Inzaghi is ahead of Giuseppe Signori (9), Hernan Crespo (8), Roberto Baggio, Marco van Basten , Gabriel Batistuta and Abel Balbo (7).
nzaghi became the first player to score two Champions League hat tricks (both with Juventus) when he netted a treble during a 4-4 group stage draw with Hamburg on 13 September 2000; his first was in a 4-1 victory over Dynamo Kyiv during the 1997-98 quarterfinals.

During 2002-2003 Champions League campaign, Inzaghi scored a hat trick against Deportivo La Coruna to break Alessandro Altobelli's Italian record of 39 goals in Europe. He scored his 62nd career European goal, and 33rd overall for Milan, in a 3-0 Champions League group stage win over Shakhtar Donetsk on 6 November 2007. This achievement put him level with Bayern Munich legend Gerd Müller on UEFA's all-time scoring list. [6] Inzaghi surpassed Müller after netting his 63rd career goal during Milan's final group stage match against Celtic on 4 December 2007. However, Raúl of Real Madrid scored a brace on 10 December 2008 in a game against Zenit St. Petersburg in the Champions League, which put Raúl ahead of Inzaghi in the goal count.

Huntelaar to Milan!!

A.C. Milan communicate they have reached an agreement with Real Madrid for the purchase of striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. The Dutch footballer will be subjected to the medical checks tomorrow, after which he will sign a contract which will keep him at the Rossoneri club until 30 June 2013.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar:

"I'm very happy, everything's good, I will be in Milan shortly. I'm a striker who likes to play for the team, I try to help the team score, I like to play in the center of the attack, I've always scored a lot playing like that. Filippo Inzaghi? I know him, he's a great player, his history with Milan is very important. For the rest Milan have many players who have been playing at the club for a long time and that's why it's a group that can be compared with family. Certainly, no two players are the same and I'm not the same as Inzaghi. It's right that every athlete has his own characteristics."

"I am calm - Huntelaar continued - also after yesterday's words from president Berlusconi, I'm very happy to be here, I know the football and the trainings in Italy are different to Spain, but I'm ready, I want to both start training and start the new adventure itself. My favorite Milan player? In general I especially admire offensive players and Milan have many, and they're all quality. Andrea Pirlo? I'm happy he stayed. I saw him play at Euro 2008 and I understood how important he is for the teams he plays in. A dear greeting to all Milan's fans. I am very happy."

Then, in front of the many cameras and microphones present at the Malpensa airport, Huntelaar added: "I've just arrived and I don't know my program yet. Milan the club and Milan the city are special for us Dutchmen, I know Van Basten very well, he coached me at Ajax as well as the national team. Milan need to have a great season."
