Milan have signed World Cup winning defender Cristian Zaccardo from Parma, with two players heading in the opposite direction.
The 31-year-old Zaccardo, who was part of the Italy squad that became world champions in Germany seven years ago, arrives at the San Siro following three and a half seasons with Parma.
Parma receive defender Djamel Mesbah and midfielder Rodney Strasser in exchange, with the latter joining on loan until the end of the current season.
He plays primarily as a right full back but is also capable of playing at centre back.
One of the best products of the Bologna youth system, Zaccardo debuted in the first team in 2001, under the direction of coach Francesco Guidolin, immediately becoming a regular for the rossoblu and Italy's "Under 21" national team. He left Bologna in 2004 to join his former coach Guidolin in Palermo. After a season spent in Germany at VfL Wolfsburg, he rejoined his former coach Guidolin at Parma F.C. in August 2009. On the 24th January 2013, he was signed by AC Milan. The deal is part of a swap and sees Djamel Mesbah going to Parma.
International career
He was part of the Italian squad who won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Zaccardo made three appearances in the competition, scoring an own goal off an attempted clearance in the second azzurri match, a 1–1 draw against the United States. He has been overlooked for national team selection in tournament competitions ever since.
