Milan go back to winning ways at San Siro not without struggling against a compact Bologna team. The team's resistence lasts 75 minutes. Deciding the match was once again the class of Clarence Seedorf, who with a perfect dribble disoriented his opponent and gave Milan the winning goal.

After the many exercises done by Leonardo to see if Ignazio Abate would be able to play as a full back, the young Rossonero gets to play from the start as a right back with Favalli on the left. After the great performance in the Champions League Seedorf is confirmed in the hole behind the strikers Pato and Huntelaar.

The formation against Bologna is an aggressive, compact team, and since the first minutes of the match Milan showed incisiveness and good condition. In the 2nd minute Huntelaar with a powerful diagonal shot scared Viviano, while Gattuso sent the ball over the bar from close range in the 13th minute after a great run by Pato.

Bologna remained mostly blocked in their area and were often in difficulty as they looked for Di Vaio and Zalayeta. Papadopulo's men couldn't create any dangerous moves in the first half an hour.

In the last few minutes of the first half, Milan augmented the pressure. In the 37th minute a cross by Pirlo found Seedorf in the area and he tried to find Huntelaar with a header but the Dutchman couldn't get to the ball in time. In the 41st minute Abate found Seedorf but the ball slipped too fast on the ground and Clarence failed to control it close to Viviano.

At the start of the second half there were no changes in either formation, and Milan quickly made themselves dangerous with a free kick by Pirlo after just two minutes. The match continued to be controlled by the Rossoneri but Papadopulo's spiderweb constantly frustrated Milan's moves.

The first real chance of the second half was in the 19th minute with Pato who fired a shot that ended up on the post. This chance spurred Milan on to believe in it even more. Leonardo took off Huntelaar and Gattuso inserted Inzaghi and Oddo. The hero of Marseille in the 27th minute found a great ball in his feet but the striker's shot went high.

Milan often tried to break through on the left and from that position Seedorf started in the 29th minute. The Dutchman went past Raggi with a nice dribble and put the ball in the net for a deserved lead.

After taking the lead Milan controlled the ball and tried to find dangerous counterattacks going through the left wing. In the 37th minute Inzaghi picked up a long ball and found himself in front of Viviano, who blocked the striker's shot which ended up on the post.

The failed chance led Bologna to try everything to get an equaliser. In the 42nd minute Mingazzini fired a great shot from distance which only Storari's skill prevented from becoming an equaliser for Bologna. A few seconds later from a corner kick Portanova tried a header which went wide. The last chance of a match which allowed Milan to get the first three points of the season in front of their home crowd.
